1054 Jerry Blair was born, Raymond Gorski, from very stable family. He was an on-air radio personality. He adopted the name, Jerry Blair, for business purposes. He met, and married, Joyce Murdock in San Angelo, Texas.

Following the birth of their son, they moved to nearby Midland, Texas, where he took a job with the fledgling KMID Television station. He started with local news and commentary, and an afternoon, after-school show geared for children. It was all-live television, and well before any kind of video recording. Jerry later became Production Manager, then Station Manager.

Contributor, "Pete Seeker" well-remembers the afternoon show, "Two-Gun Playhouse," which featured 1930's and 40's Cowboy Western movies, all in black and white. In fact, ALL features on that station were B&W. It is recollected that some color made its way to the station in about 1957, but not all. On Playhouse, Jerry would tout the show's sponsor, Metzger's Milk. He named the baby-picture on each carton, as a mascot named, "George." His closing line was "George says, 'This is good milk from contented cows." It was different time.

Jerry was friends with an actor who came to help boost the station's programming. That friend was Edward "Eddie" Platt, who became an easily recognizable television and movie character-actor. Platt and Jerry moved on, but in decidedly different directions. The contributor does not have first-hand knowledge of Jerry and Joyce following their move from Midland, but from all indications, they were successful, and lived in the Dallas area for the rest of their lives.

1055 Jim Milliron passed away on November 4, 2023, at the age of 81.

Born on March 18, 1942 in Kittanning, PA to Miles and Dorothy Milliron, Jim was raised to love the outdoors, animals, and sports.

He often reminisced about growing up in the Kittanning Highlands with his sisters Suzie and Nancy. His tales involved horseback riding and an illustrious cast of dogs and even ducks at his uncle Dr. Joseph W. Milliron's in Applewold.

It was his athleticism that earned him notoriety at Kittanning High School but also football, wrestling, & baseball scholarships across the country. He chose Arizona State University, where he played football under the coaching of the legendary Frank Kush.

At ASU, he met Juanita Bobbish, and upon graduation, they married and moved back to Kittanning, PA, where they both became schoolteachers and raised a family. Jim naturally earned a position as a physical & health educator. Known as "Coach", he held a variety of assignments in the Armstrong School District and his personality left a lasting impression for multiple generations.

Jim never lost his love of the outdoors but added cooking, gardening, country drives, fishing trips to Canada with Suzie and Mitch and of course drinking beer to his favorite pastimes.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita and is survived by his children, Kirsten Echnoz & Jimmy Milliron; and grandchildren, Elle Echnoz and Herik & Inga Milliron.

A private ceremony was held by his children Kirsten & Jimmy, and son in law Chip Echnoz. Jim took one last drive on November 8, 2023. The autumn weather was unbelievable driving through Smicksburg, and Amish country. We stopped at Avi's bar in Rural Valley for a six pack, and all the tv's were playing Gunsmoke. Jim's favorite TV show!

Then off to Garrets Run & Chip's "Double E" farm, where a herd of deer were waiting at the Round Top, Jim's favorite hunting area. We let his ashes, along with the ashes of Bud his Yellow Lab & Louie the French Bulldog ashes go then a rainbow/sunburst appeared.

1059 Johannes Dietrich Kasselmann & Anna Elizabetha Rinderin

Johannes "Hans" Dietrich was probably born near the little villiage of Adelshofen in what today is Baden Wurttemberg, Germany. At the time of his birth it was still one of the Palatine States (small domains ruled by Princes of The Mother Church in Rome) that was enduring famine and religious wars. Some of the Princes, tired of paying tribute to the church were in the process of breaking away and Protestantism in the form of Luther's followers (and French Calvinists emigrating to the Palatine to escape persecution and death) was gaining strength.

Records there at the Luthern Church in Adelshofen show that on 15 November 1687 Johannes Dietrich Kasselmann, son of the late Johannes Kasselmann married Anna Rinderin, daughter of the late Johannes Peter Rinder of Glottfelden Zurcher Gebieth, Switzerland.

Because no records found at Adelshofen indicate otherwise it is speculated that some of the family moved to a different area in Southern Germany, possibly near Eppingen where Joh, Dietrich's first child's birth is recorded.

Evidence suggests that Joh. Dietrich and Anna had 7 children. It would seem that the family must have been on the move as the birth of Andreas Lodewich (evidently the given name of the father being automatically passed on was no longer practiced or was inadvertantly dropped at some time) was recorded at the church at Adelshofen, none of the other subsequent offspring were recorded as being born there. Anna ??, may have been a still birth as her death was recorded there at Adelshofen. Another son Johannes Vilhelm was born after their arrival at West Camp, Albany Co., NY.

Shortly after the birth of Anna in 1708, Joh. Dietrich with his family apparently began the migration to America via Holland and England in the second wave of Palatines fleeing oppression in Germany, an exodus known as the "1709ers". The family are listed with the group of Palatines gathered in Walworth England in 1709 who had seeked and been granted refuge by Oueen Anne.

Immigration records (London 1709 census of Palatines) indicate that children numbers - 2,3,4,6 & 7 - were with Joh. Dietrich and Anna as 1709 er's , migrating from Germany through Holland and England to New York by 1710. His occupation was shown as "husbandsman and vinedresser". Also, in the records of the Board of Trade, under miscellaneous, Vol 2 D.64: compiled 27 May 1709 by German ministers Tribbeko and Rupert, were listed " Casselmann, John age 49 yrs, with his wife Anna, sons 10, 3, daughters19, 13, & 6mos, Lutherans". The name was first anglized to John Casselmann at this time.

Passage for the 1709ers to the new world was arranged by Queen Anne as indentured workers to make lumber, pitch & tar for the british navy. They arrived in New York on 14 June 1710 aboard the ship Midfort. Later in1710, the rations lists of Govenor Hunter has the family living in West Camp, Albany Co., NY: "Kasselmann, Dietrich #1102004. (1 man, Johannes Dietrich, 1 lad 9-15, Andreas, 2 women, the wife Anna Elizabetha and Anna Greta, 4 people total). It is thought that daughter Anna Elizabetha at age 20 was either married or working (domestic) outside the family by 1710 and did not draw rations there. There is good reason to believe that Johannes Dietrich Jr. and the child Anna ?? did not survive the voyage from England. Son Johannes Vilhelm was born there at West Camp the following year.
Old Area Map

The Simindger List of Palatines in America, taken in 1713 and published in 1717 in Germany, shows Johannes Dietrich and wife Anna living in Stuttgart, now the Schoharie , NY area, with two children (probably Andreas Ludwig and Johannes Vilhelm as by this time Anna Greta would have been 17 and most likely married or working outside the home also).

The Palatines that were unable to pay for their voyage from England to the New World and had their passage paid by Oueen Anne as indentured workers (to make pitch & tar from the pine forests of New York for the british navy until their debt was repaid), were supposed to receive food, shelter and clothing as part of the agreement. Due to mismanagement, the project was not successful and the rations supplied to the Palatines was stopped leaving them to forge for themselves in the Winter of 1712. To survive, the Palatines left West Camp to take up farming where they were promised land in the Schoharie Valley, NY.

After building several villages and cultivating the land it became apparent that there was a problem involving the title to the land and they would most likely never be able to own their homes and farms. A period of civil unrest ensued, a series of riots and general disorder including running the High Sheriff out of town on a rail. To quell the riots, and as compensation for their labors, the Palantines were offered land in the Stone Arabia Area. Many took the offer including Joh. Dietrich and his family, others made arrangements to stay on the land at Schoharie. Dietrich's nephew Kristianus Kasselman and family was one that stayed.

On 19 October 1723 Dietrich along with his son Andreas were two of the original patentees of a 12,700 acre land patent near the Mohawk River in Albany Co., NY. Each patentee received a 28th share of the whole, Dietrich drew lots 23 & 39, each 50 acres. The patent area became known as Stone Arabia.

Records at Albany New York reflect that both Johannes Dietrich and Anna Casselmann died there, dates and place of interment unknown.

1060 Johannes Kristianus (JFK) Kasselmann Story

Johannes Kristianus with his wife and one child made the voyage to England & New York as 1709ers along with his uncle Johannes Dietrich and his family. As with his uncle, his sur name was anglized to Casselmann upon arrival in England. They arrived in New York on 14 June 1710 aboard the ship Midfort.

In 1710 the rations lists of Govenor Hunter has the family living in West Camp, Albany Co., NY. The Simindger List of Palatines in America, taken in 1713 and published in 1717 in Germany shows Johannes Kristianus and wife Anna living in Stuttgart, now the Schoharie , NY area.

The Palatines that could not pay their passage from England to the New World had their passage paid by Oueen Anne as indentured workers to make lumber, pitch & tar for the British Navy until their debt was paid. Due to mismanagement the tar project was not successful and the rations supplied to the Palatines was stopped leaving them to forge for themselves. In the Winter 1712 the Palatines left West Camp to take up farming on land they were told they would own in the Schoharie Valley, New York.

After building several villages and cultivating the land it became apparent that there was a problem involving the title to the land and they would most likely never be able to own their homes and farms, a period of civil unrest ensued. A series of riots, including running the High Sheriff out of town on a rail and general disorder followed; to quell the riots and as compensation for their labors, the Palantines were offered land in the Stone Arabia Area. Many took the offer including Kristianus's uncle Johannes Dietrich and his family, others made arrangementsto stay on the land at Schoharie. Suspect in slayings of Westland teens convicted in 2012 of killing military veteran

Detroit ? The second suspect in the brutal murders of two Westland teens two years ago was arraigned Thursday.

Felando Hunter, 23, already serving a life sentence for murder in Jackson State Prison, was arraigned Thursday via video in 36th District Court.

Hunter and suspect Fredrick K. Young, 25, of Detroit, face charges of first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder, torture, armed robbery, unlawful imprisonment and felony firearm in the slayings of Jacob Kudla, 18, and Jourdan Bobbish, 17, two years ago.

Young faces an additional charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm

The teens? bodies were found July 27, 2012 in a field near City Airport about a week after they had gone missing after visiting their uncle who lives on the city?s eastside. They were last seen about a week earlier.

About two weeks later, both Hunter and Young were arrested in connection with fatal shooting of a 60-year-old Marine and Navy veteran John Villneff who was shot to death defending his grandchildren during a home invasion involving Hunter, Young and several other men at the family?s home in the 6800 block of Rutland on the city?s west side on August 9, 2012.

Hunter was sentenced to life in prison in Villneff?s murder. Young is awaiting trial, along with two other defendants, in the Villneff case next month.

Investigators allege Young and Hunter robbed, tortured, imprisoned and then murdered Kudla and Bobbish. The motive for the murders has not been released but more details in the teens? murders and the case are expected to be released when Hunter and Young have their preliminary examination on the charges to determine whether they will stand trial on the charges on May 13.

The bodies of Kudla and Bobbish were found in a field at Lyford and French near City Airport on July 27, 2012, around 9 a.m. following a week-long search of the city for the teens. Their family members believed they were carjacked after leaving the east side home of an uncle.

The victims were stripped to their underwear, forced to kneel, and shot execution-style in an overgrown, litter-strewn field near Coleman A. Young Airport. A man scavenging for old furniture to sell made the gruesome discovery of the teens? bodies.

The arrests and charges follow an extensive investigation by Detroit police and the Wayne County Prosecutor?s Office.

1099 Leonard Budzen, beloved husband of Josy Budzen, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2016 at The Villages Regional Hospital. He was 94.

Precious father to Janice Budzen and Sheri and John Wojciechowski, loving brother to Violet Laliberte (who is 98) and cherished grandpa to Lauryn Sprung, Maddy and Mike Tousley , Mike, Chelsea and Matt Wojciechowski and Jeff and Jenny Budzen--their daughter Jessica was Len and Josy's first great granddaughter, and Hannah Budzen.

Len was born in Detroit on October 27, 1922 to Polish parents Walter and Stella Budzen. They came to the U.S. from Poland as teenagers and met in Detroit. Len spoke the Polish language fluently as does his sister.

Raised in Detroit, Len graduated from Cass Tech High School as valedictorian and received a scholarship to the University of Miami in music. Although an accomplished violinist, he said when he saw all the extremely talented musicians there he switched his major to engineering.

He served his country in the Pacific as an Ensign in the U S Navy from 1943 to 1946.

In 1948 he graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Engineering
and began a long career with General Electric (formerly Carboloy). He served in various marketing and sales management positions and along the way he acquired several Midas Auto Repair shops, which he later sold.

His passion was the electric car and in the 70s at Copper Development Corporation he was responsible for the development of an electric car. His success was touted in many newspaper stories and Len drove the car in a number of parades throughout the country. He was even a contestant on the TV program "To Tell The Truth." It is no wonder that he was one of the first to own an electric car when they became available.

After many years of traveling the world with Holland America Cruise Lines and the Michigan-based Nomads travel group and during winter months escaping Michigan's harsh winters at Siesta Key beaches, Len and his wife bought a place in to The Villages in 2012 where they enjoyed golfing. Len also loved gardening and teaching tricks to beloved dog Ginger.

Len lived his life to the fullest--always having a positive outlook no matter the challenges. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, keen mind, quick wit, hearty laugh and kind heart.
