QUOTE: Info from DAR chart. Rental Rolls: 1764 p. 21 Frederick Co., VA 10-05 Census: 1810 p. 364 00101-00100-09 Frederick Co., VA 1782, S p 21 10-05 Frederick Co., VA. He was a farmer. This is what the DAR chart has about him: "DAVID CASTLEMAN and brothers JACOB and LEWIS came to Virginia from Albany Co., NY about 1750. The first record in Virginia of any of the three brothers shows LEWIS standing Godfather to several adult Indians at a convocation at Winchester, VA called by Gov. DINWIDDLE in 1753. DAVID lived and died in Frederick Co., VA. JACOB settled in Pittsburg, PA c. 1785 and died there c. 1815. LEWIS settled in Woodford Co. KY in 1787. DAVID purchased "Head Springs" farm at Summit Point, VA (now West Virginia) in 1762. He conveyed 2 acres of this farm to the Hopewell congregation on which a church was built. In 1772 he sold the "Head Springs" farm and purchased the "Glen Owen" farm three miles east of Berryville, VA. In 1811 he sold "Glen Owen" farm reserving the burying ground where his wife had been buried in 1808 and where he was buried in 1826. In 1811 DAVID purchased "Rose Hill" farm at Wickliffe, VA. where he lived until his death. In 1842 he conveyed one acre to the trustees of Wickliffe Academy on which to build a schoold house. Later when the schoold was discontinued, the school was enclosed with the original churck lot and now forms about half of the present church lot.

He bought lands from the Washingtons and built a colonial home called "North Hill". This home is still in good shape and is currently used as a summer resort.[Castleman1.ged.FTW]
